Diagnostic

  • A neurological examination to identify problems related to the brain and nervous system.
  • Blood Tests: To check for signs of infection, genetic conditions, blood sugar levels, or electrolyte imbalances.
  • Lumbar Puncture: To check for infections that may cause seizures.
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG) : To monitor brain activity, predict the likelihood of recurrent seizures, and determine if the seizures are due to epilepsy.
  • Computed Tomography Scan (CT scan) : To reveal potential abnormalities in the brain.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) : To detect signs of diseases or abnormalities that may cause seizures.

Treatment

  • Symptomatic Treatment of Seizure.
  • The doctor will consider anticonvulsant medications, which vary in administration, efficacy, and side effects.
  • If seizure is uncontrollable, there are several treatment options available, such as the ketogenic diet, Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), and surgery.

Cares to reduce risks of seizure and cares when having seizure.

  1. Avoid various triggers such as fever, stress, insufficient rest, and certain medications that affect anticonvulsant levels.
  2. Patients should take anticonvulsant medications consistently and should not adjust their dosage on their own.
  3. When a seizure occurs, family members should note the characteristics of the seizure or record a video to help the doctor provide accurate advice.
  4. During a Seizure, it is recommended that caregiver place the patient on their side and avoid using hard objects to pry the mouth open, as this can cause more injury to the mouth than the seizure itself.
  5. Monitor the patient until the seizure stops and contact the nearest medical facility during this time.
