Bangkok Hospital Ratchasima

CANCER CENTER

We provide diagnosis, treatment, and care for cancer patients aged 15 and older. This includes consultation for patients suspected of having cancer, screening for common types of cancer using appropriate laboratory methods, and bone marrow examinations for patients suspected of hematologic cancers. We offer cancer treatment with chemotherapy, non-chemotherapy drugs, radiotherapy, and surgery. Additionally, we provide palliative care to ensure patients have a good quality of life. Our specialized doctors offer comprehensive care before, during, and after treatment, supported by a multidisciplinary team with extensive experience.

Comprehensive Cancer Screening

Comprehensive cancer screening involves using various appropriate laboratory tests and imaging techniques. These include X-ray imaging, ultrasound, MRI, CT scans, suitable blood tests, pathological biopsies, endoscopy, and other relevant laboratory examinations.

Treatment Plans

We provide guidance and information to help patients make informed decisions about their treatment plan, considering their physical and mental well-being holistically. Our care involves specialized doctors and knowledgeable nurses who offer consultations in various areas. A dedicated oncology nurse coordinates care, follows up with patients, provides information, and offers personalized advice.

Medication treatment

  • Chemotherapy involves using drugs that target and destroy cancer cells, preventing them from dividing and growing further. Most chemotherapy drugs are administered through injections or infusions with fluids into the bloodstream. However, some newer chemotherapy drugs are available in oral forms, which makes medication administration more convenient and reduces hospital stay durations.
  • Targeted Therapy Drugs that inhibit signaling related to the growth and division of cancer cells generally have fewer side effects on normal cells compared to chemotherapy. These targeted therapies are designed to specifically disrupt cancer cell processes while minimizing damage to healthy cells.
  • Hormonal Therapy Hormone therapy for cancer involves using medications to alter hormone levels in the body. This treatment inhibits the growth of cancer cells that have hormone receptors, as some cancers rely on hormones for their growth, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer. By changing hormone levels, this therapy can slow or stop the progression of these hormone-dependent cancers.
  • Immunotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses drugs to affect the function of certain white blood cells, enhancing their ability to eliminate cancer cells more effectively. These drugs can be used for the following,
    • Used as adjuvant treatment after surgery to improve the chances of a cure or as neoadjuvant therapy before surgery to shrink the tumor, making it easier to remove.
    • Used in combination with radiation therapy for patients with cancer that is not operable.
    • As a primary treatment for cancers that have metastasized.

Surgery

Surgery is an effective method for treating cancers that are localized and have not spread to other organs or are not in advanced stages. Advances in surgical techniques allow for the removal of tumors while preserving the shape of organs, as well as avoid removing the organ, such as in breast-conserving surgery or minimally invasive surgery (MIS). These procedures are performed by specialized surgeons and supported by a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists. This approach helps patients recover faster, reduces the risk of complications, and shortens hospital stays.

Interventional Radiologist

Cancer treatment by interventional radiologists involves using specialized equipment to eliminate tumors. Techniques include microwave ablation, radiofrequency ablation, and Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE). TACE involves delivering drugs to block the blood vessels supplying the tumor, effectively cutting off its blood supply and leading to its eventual death. These methods are commonly used for treating liver cancer.

Palliative Care

Palliative care aims to relieve pain and alleviate both physical and emotional suffering. It includes providing counseling and guidance to family to help them understand the illness and plan for the patient’s care. The goal is to ensure that both the patient and their family experience the best possible quality of life during the final stages of life.

We offer inpatient services with a specialized oncology nursing team providing 24-hour care.
